Galvanization

Galvanization is a process by which a layer of zinc is bonded to the steel or iron object in order to protect against corrosion and rusting.

Biquadro implements galvanizing process according to two different methods: hot dip galvanizing or electrolytic galvanizing.

The hot dip galvanizing process consists of immersing the semi-finished product in molten zinc maintained at an average temperature of 455 °C that is covering the steel with a thin protective layer. Thanks to the pre-treatment in molten salts of zinc chloride and ammonium chloride, the zinc binds to the steel. The corrosion resistance is superior than electrolytic galvanizing thanks also to the improved mechanical strength of the protective layer.

In the electrolytic galvanizing the material is properly prepared (pre-degreased, pickled and degreased) then it is immersed in an electrolytic solution containing zinc salts. Finally an electric current flows between the workpiece and the solution making the zink adhering to the surface of the workpiece.
